Up is not the only way
What we want is an endless trajectory headed straight towards the stars.
That and not ever to have to waste a moment examining whether what we believe to be true has basis in evidence; is actually is a truth we can rely on.
Promotion follows promotion, pay rise follows pay rise. It's not just our expectation: it's been our experience.
It's the life they told us was possible if only we make the right choices, sacrifice the right things. Which of course are all the most precious things. All the things we should never have casually bartered away for cash.
The pattern of our first career becomes the template for our second.
We'll quit corporate, but we still want the glitter.
We can't comprehend having less so we say we're leaving the Big Job but actually we want more: same salary, same kudos and all the warm fuzzies that come with green wash, or the title of "founder"...the validation that comes from being a rebel, without ever challenging the values the whole edifice rests on.
